Christmas has come and gone, and has bought with it a brand new year. In his latest blog Matthew Ripton looks forward to what 2017 has in store for Ripton Windows, and the double glazing industry.
2016 was a tumultuous year which saw significant changes for both the UK and the double glazing industry. The UK’s decision to leave the European Union doubtlessly will have an effect on the double glazing industry as we move closer to exit. Concerns about the ethics of business practice in the industry emerged yet again, culminating in a dispute over the length of sales calls in December. But it was not all doom and gloom – on a more personal note for Ripton Windows, we celebrated twenty years in business – certainly something to celebrate in a time where double glazing installation companies burn out quickly, only to re-emerge again with a slightly altered name.
The new year offers us an opportunity to reflect and look forward. 2017 will certainly be influenced by the far reaching decisions made in 2016, so I’ve put together a list of what we at Ripton Windows think will be important in the coming year.
As much as we might like to, we can’t afford to ignore the sigificance of the Brexit decision. We don’t know what it will look like long term, but 2017 will certainly be tough due to the fall in the pound against the dollar. This means that products are getting more expensive. PVCu polymer for windows is brought in dollars, most locking system components are manufactured in the Asia, which means that prices are rising.
What does this mean for our customers?
We will do our very best to protect our customers from these rising costs in the coming year. We plan on doing that by continuing to buy our products competitively, and keep our prices affordable fr our customers. Effectively, Brexit means we have to work that little bit harder. It also helps that we have some fantastic finance packages available, so our customers can spread the cost.
What does this mean for the double glazing industry?
At the end of last year the issue of the hard sell was raised again, and I can’t see this problem with the industry going away any time soon. With the cost of products rising, I think 2017 will see an increase in hard sell tactics used by members of the double glazing industry, particularly the big multinational companies. Rest assured – we hate this practice as much as you do! We will continue to stand by our company values of fair pricing and good quality customer care regardless of the financial market, because we want to live up to our family name and reputation.
In more exciting news, we are investing in a make over of our showroom at 3 Crockford Lane. While it is already fantastic, we are upgrading some of our displays with new window systems and profiles, so you can see what you are getting. These window systems demonstrate the best innovation in the industry, including new corner welding techniques, profiles which looks like timber windows, and stylish fixtures and fittings. We’ll also be replacing a couple of our conservatory and liv-in rooms to showcase the latest innovations in these products.
Make no mistake, turbulent economic winds are blowing. Here at Ripton Windows, we’re in a great place to weather these storms.
