Sometimes when you look for information about conservatories and orangeries it can be difficult to understand what makes them different. Often websites will use the term interchangeably. This can make it very difficult to know which product is right for you.

What is the difference?

If you’ve taken a look at our previous product profile you have a good idea of what a conservatory is. They contain dwarf walls, glass frames and a glass roof. An Orangery however has some different features. Instead of having a glass roof placed on glass window frames, an orangery is made of brickwork pillars and a lantern roof set into brickwork. This means that you can place LED down lights around your lantern roof for when it is dark. Additionally, the brick work pillars add to the style of the orangery.

What difference does this make?

Some of the difference is in the style of the addition to your house. Firstly, orangeries includes much more brick work which can reduce the open feel of the room. However, the lantern roof set into a plastered recess can add some style and wow factor to this addition to your home. This is thanks to the beautiful fabrication of the lantern.

An Orangery looks far to expensive for me!

Some of our customers think that an orangery would be the perfect addition to their home, but think they look too expensive. However, we have the perfect solution! A Liv-in Room combines the style of the Orangery with the more affordable elements of a conservatory, giving you the best of both worlds.
